Second Day 9.1.05

SAS BLOG
9.1.05

Hi all!

So last time I don’t think I finished writing because I got distracted. I’ve found out that using the computers on this ship is harder than I imagined. The internet is extremely SLOW. So note to everyone: I will not be writing to you as much as I had promised!!
Everything is going great here. I met a lot of people on the ship yesterday, including my new soulmate J haha. Her name is Megan and it was scary how much we have in common. I have a feeling we will become good friends, especially because we are on a bunch of trips together in the countries. On the topic of friends, last night I met a guy named Emanuel, and we started speaking Spanish together. I told him that I was thinking about becoming a Spanish teacher and he said he would help me. I told him I also spoke Hebrew and so we decided to make an exchange; I’ll teach him Hebrew and he’ll teach me Spanish. So, last night I taught him the first half of the Hebrew alphabet. He was actually pretty good! Then I found out that he is an amazing salsa dancer, and we spent part of the night salsa dancing in his room! FUN! I’m going to try and get a group together to go dancing in Brazil!!! WHEE.
Today I had my first two classes. They are fantastic!!! Global Studies is every day with all the students, and the teacher is wonderful. In this class we learn all about the countries we will visit, their people and culture. We also learn about globalization and the changing dynamics of our world today. The second class I had is a psychology class about gender and violence – specifically towards women and girls. The teacher is absolutely amazing, I know I will love this class! I have a feeling that all of the teachers on this ship will be great because it is very selective.
The food on the ship is great. Hopefully it’s not too great though, because I’d love to lose a few pounds before I come home. I hear that all the girls on this trip gain weight – so I will try and beat the stereotype! There is not much to do on the ship because classes just barely started, so we play lots of games. They actually have a whole room FULL of every board game you can imagine! I seriously feel like I’m on a cruise. People lay out on deck – its 85 degrees…play in the pool…read…relax. I wonder if a lot will change once classes get going. I feel like besides being worried about being social, people are anxious to get to Venezuela. I know I am. I hope that once we all have an experience in another country this trip will really get started. Anyways, I just have to say - it is SO weird seeing the water every time I look out the window. I just can't get over it. It throws me off every time!

AHHH I'm having fun! Ok bye! Love to all.

They even have Jenga? (Is that how you spell that game?) What happens when the ship tilts? Down go the wooden rectangles...

Seriously - sounds like you're doing well. It makes me have warm fuzzies.
Don't stop singing just cause you're on a ship.
